Appeals

We have the following appeals active at this time, to make improvements to the ways that we remember and honour those members of the fire and rescue service who have died in the course of their duties, protecting their communities. 

Offers of Sponsorship welcomed. 

‘Support -in- Kind’ donations as an alternative to financial contribution, of a nature, which would ease project costs or to facilitate the advancement of any of our appeals, will of course also be welcomed.

The Firefighters Memorial Appeal 

Located adjacent St Pauls Cathedral, London, the Memorial in its present form has existed since 2003 and is now in great need of some re-design work. We are running out of space to add names in the future, and we wish to make the whole structure more relevant in depicting the fire service going back in time to the 1700s, which is the period when we record the first name in our online Book of Remembrance. 

To achieve this and to make the Memorial an even greater tribute to those we seek to remember and honour, we need to raise £150k.

The Firefighters Memorial Garden Appeal 

Our Memorial Garden, located within the wonderful and unique National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas, Staffordshire urgently requires landscaping improvement so that we can provide a pleasant place of reflection and remembrance for visitors.  

It has now reached a point where we need to refresh the planting and we wish to place on site suitable recognition of those members of the fire service who have died in the course of their military duties as a result of them being military reservists and being called back to duty and those for volunteered for or who were conscripted into the armed forces and who subsequently died as a result of their military role and who have never before been recorded and remembered as a group. 

Likewise, those men and women who, during World War Two, died as a result of their duties as ‘Fire Watchers’ and ‘Fire Guards’ (previously known as Supplementary Fire Parties – otherwise referred to ‘Street Fire Parties’). Never before recorded and remembered as a group. 

The Firefighters Memorial Garden is where we hold our annual Service of Remembrance and wreath-laying ceremony and is an important, and indeed, vital venue to assist us achieve our aims and we need to raise £75k.

The Firefighters Next-of-Kin Emblem Appeal 

The Trust already awards a medal to the next-of-kin of those members of the fire service who have died in the course of their duties since the creation of the Firefighters Memorial in 2003.  

We now feel that it is more appropriate to award instead a brooch-style emblem, in the form of The Firefighters Star, which can be more easily worn.  

This will involve commissioning a quality style emblem from a suitable supplier, which can then be presented to the next-of-kin as a tribute to their loved-one. We will need to raise the funds for the initial commissioning of the Emblem and then the stock required to make future presentations. We need to raise £30k.
